LATIN IMMERSION TRIP TO OXFORD, UK. August 11-18, 2024
All levels of Latin learners are welcome to join this Latin immersion experience for one week at historic Jesus College, Oxford. The College, one of the 44 Colleges that make up the University of Oxford, is located in the heart of the city, with shops, markets and restaurants on your doorstep. Oxford is about an hour from London by road or rail, and agreed airport transfer is included in your fee, along with full room and board.
You will stay in the original centuries-old gothic college quads and enjoy breakfast in the beautiful Elizabethan dining hall, before meeting with your instructors in college lecture rooms or even in the quads blooming with summer flowers. We break after lunch for rest or silent study or a chance to explore the ‘city of dreaming spires’; then meet again in mixed groups for reading and discussion of various genres and styles of Latin prose and poetry. After dinner there is optional group entertainment including games or maybe even punting on the Cherwell river.
We will also take a field trip to Chedworth Roman Villa, the remains of one of the grandest Roman villas in Britain, which still has astonishing in-situ mosaics, two bath-houses and a water shrine. A small museum houses a range of finds and artefacts from the villa.
Regardless of your current level of proficiency, this immersion trip promises significant growth in your fluency, unforgettable historic surroundings, and a chance to form wonderful new friendships with likeminded people from all over the world. Our experienced instructors will guide you through engaging classes and interactive conversations, helping newer students build confidence in reading, speaking, and understanding Latin, and discussing texts with the more confident speakers.
