Greek Intermediate I – Term Time Class

This level is part of our intermediate Ancient Greek lessons and completes the syntax of the present participle, active and passive, alongside further third-declension paradigms such as nouns in -εύς, πόλις and ἄστυ. Students will learn cardinal and ordinal numbers and impersonal verbs (ἔξεστι, προσήκει, δεῖ, χρή), and will be introduced to root aorists and augment, learning the first and second aorist alongside the imperfect, including liquid-stem verbs such as μένω. We also introduce stems in -s and comparative and superlative adjectives, and students will survey the relative, demonstrative and indefinite pronouns, and locative adverbs. Students will read Homeric material and write paraphrases of excerpts from the Odyssey and Iliad. By the end of this level, students should be familiar with many of the subordinate clauses in Greek.
