Latin in Rome

Dates

4–10 April 2027

Where

Villa Palazzola, Alban Hills

Level

All levels, beginner to advanced

Language

Latin, all week

All levels of Latin learners are welcome on this week-long immersion at Palazzola, a former monastery in the Alban Hills overlooking Lake Albano, a short way outside Rome. You live on site for the week, take classes grouped by level, and spend most of each day speaking Latin – at meals, in class and on the excursion.

A week of spoken Latin

The programme is intensive and fully immersive. Classes combine language instruction in small groups with grammar sessions and seminars. Time is set aside every day for personal study, with teachers on hand to answer questions. In the evenings, there are songs, games, and free time.

Whatever your level now, a week of hearing, speaking, reading and writing Latin will make a marked difference to your fluency.

Palazzola

Palazzola was originally a monastery and housed several religious orders through the Middle Ages. It stands on the rim of Lake Albano, in the hills that Roman tradition made the site of Alba Longa, the city of Aeneas's son Ascanius and the mother city of Rome.

Archaeological excursion

One day of the week is dedicated to visiting an archaeological site. The cost of this trip is included in the price.

The teachers

The week is taught by our own tutors, who teach in Latin throughout using the active method. You will learn alongside a small number of other students at your level.

Booking and payment

A non-refundable deposit of £500 secures your place when you book. The total balance is due by 1 March 2027. Flights are not included; we arrange for transfers between Fiumicino and Ciampino airports and Palazzola.

From people who came

This reminds me what a great thing it is to do in retirement for a complete change! Loved my time and would recommend at every level.

Latin Immersion Trip to Rome, 2026

It's wonderful as an adult to seriously learn with great teachers for a full week. And where else do folks laugh at Dr Who jokes in Latin?

Latin Immersion Trip to Rome, 2026

Even though I am a beginner, I felt so included at this camp. I was always encouraged to try my best, even if I got things wrong. I learnt so much every day and I have never wanted to study Latin so much.

Nina Mutton
